The engineers and inventors whose creations help deliver colorful, stable film images and cutting-edge animation are getting recognition from Oscar.

The film academy announced Friday that 33 men will share in 10 prizes awarded at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards next month in Beverly Hills, California. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is also presenting a special award to the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in recognition of its support of technical advancements over the past 100 years.

The academy will award certificates in Technical Achievement and plaques for Scientific and Engineering at a private ceremony on Feb. 13 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Portions of the untelevised event could be included in the Academy Awards telecast on Feb. 28.
