Small quakes shake Southern, Northern California communities
Small earthquakes hundreds of miles apart have rattled communities east of Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The largest of the quakes was a magnitude-3.7 temblor that struck at 12:39 a.m. Wednesday just north of Hemet, about 85 miles east of Los Angeles. It was downgraded from an initial estimate of 3.9. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was 10 miles deep.
A magnitude-3.1 quake occurred later in the morning about 35 miles to the west, near Corona.
In the north, a magnitude-3.5 quake struck 25 miles east of San Francisco, near Concord, shortly after 7:30 a.m. The USGS says it was 9 miles deep.
The USGS website recorded hits from many people who reported the jolts as "weak" or "light." The Hemet and Concord quakes also had smaller aftershocks.
