Nobel Peace Prize to be announced in Oslo

(AP)—After vetting candidates for seven months, the Norwegian judges for the Nobel Peace Prize will reveal the winner of the coveted award on Friday, capping a week of Nobel Prize announcements.

The secretive panel hasn't released any hints, and speculation this year is pointing in many different directions, without any clear favorite.

Online betting sites are giving the lowest odds to Russian , Afghan women's rights activist Sima Samar and Gene Sharp, a U.S. scholar whose writings on nonviolent resistance have influenced pro-democracy movements in the Arab world and elsewhere.

The 2012 in medicine, physics, chemistry and literature have already been announced. The economics prize, which is not an original Nobel but was created by the Swedish central bank, will be announced on Monday.
