Briefs: Alcatel gets China Telecom broadband job

Alcatel has signed on to a major upgrade of China Telecom's broadband network.

The French communications firm will deploy its solutions in 26 provinces in preparation for the future advent of triple-play broadband services.

The specifics of the pact call for the Alcatel 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager, which will enable China Telecom to offer users as far off as the province of Inner Mongolia broadband speeds three times those of conventional ADSL technology.

The contract was signed through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's main unit in China. China Telecom holds about 70 percent of China's fixed-line capacity.
