The inability to find that sense of control in their lives can result from dependence on fragile delusions and the paralyzing fear of the destruction of said delusion. While true this misses the point about how the US Constitution was structured. It is important that it can be extended with amendments; but the purpose of the Constitution was to give the directions for forming a government, not to prescript or proscript actions of the people. Amendments are to prescript or proscript (mostly the latter) what the government may or may not do, not the people. For example the government may not stop citizens from voting, no matter their sex or race.

For prescription or proscription of actions of the people one must look to the US Code and the laws of the States.
