Here in Central Oregon the observation of the Carmageddon is also a scheduled event which will last a good deal longer than the little 'ole solar eclipse.

For many years I have been reading that the sun is roughly 835,000 miles wide at the equator. Now they're telling me it's roughly 140,000 miles narrower? The decision was made to use this measurement was in 1976. Why has this knowledge taken decades to filter down to even cosmologists and astronomers, the very people from whom I have been getting my information? I know my complaining will have zero effect, but that really pisses me off. I consider myself to be scientifically literate, but if I'm fed bad information than I'm no less ill informed than the idiot who lied to me or gave me false information thinking they were giving good information. Christ, might as well listen to what comes out of the White House and consider it to be good information instead of idiotic twaddle.
