I was very much a Goldwater fan with the exception of his claim that States Rights trumps Civil Rights. It was the rise of the Southern strategy that drove me away from the Republican party.

Today I lean center-left which in no way makes me a socialist.

The "being ordered about" wasn't much of a problem in Vietnam because it didn't happen a lot, but I knew I wasn't fit for the regimentation of stateside duty.

I am a fan of property rights.
Any business has a right to refuse service and customers have a right not to patronize such businesses.
What the civil rights act has led to is corporate blackmail by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and discrimination based upon race, Affirmative Action resulting in incompetents like Obama.
It has also resulted in an institutionalized 'civil rights' bureaucracy to perpetuate racism.

Someone should have opened a diner that welcomed all.
I bet there was a large majority of business owners who would have been very glad to serve all, equally.
Certainly and govt run operation like a city bus would be in violation of the 16th amendment.
But they were likely intimidated by the 'liberal' KKK minority.
The most effective to solution to any business you don't like it don't buy their stuff.
The Weather Channel is finding out their customers don't like the crap they are selling and are losing money.

Intimidation, threats, violation of property rights which state and federal laws could be applied.

The Civil Rights Act was passed 50 years ago. How well have the objected been met? Institutional racism still exists and is encouraged by the state.

1. free food- nope. you pay for it. It just doesn't always come directly out of your pocket
2. free clothes- NOPE again... you pay for your uniform. And the military adds a pittance yearly for upkeep (which is not even enough to replace the uniforms you used that year- only enough to buy one set of BDU's)
CHECK the paperwork... ALL soldiers pay for their uniforms. read the fine print.
3. free housing- NOPE again. You lose pay by accepting the housing, and are required to upkeep it (no large upkeep, but painting and small stuff like lights are your responsibility)
4. being ordered about- you have the right AND the responsibility to ignore AND report un-lawful/illegal orders per the UCMJ
