They point out that odor is only one of many cause of mate selection.

When opinions change, b.o. changes?

Good question.

As a Barry Goldwater conservative and Marine I "mated" with a real Communist, a buxom blond I lived across the street from as a kid. Recently I "mated "with an ardent Tea Bagger, also a buxom blond. They both smelled wonderful.

As a Barry Goldwater conservative and Marine

I don''t believe the conservative part so how can a Marine be a socialist?
Is it the military way of life, free food, free clothes, free housing, being ordered about that turns one into a socialist?

@ryggy
I was very much a Goldwater fan with the exception of his claim that States Rights trumps Civil Rights. It was the rise of the Southern strategy that drove me away from the Republican party.

Today I lean center-left which in no way makes me a socialist.

The "being ordered about" wasn't much of a problem in Vietnam because it didn't happen a lot, but I knew I wasn't fit for the regimentation of stateside duty.

center-left which in no way makes me a socialist.

Sure it does.
They support state control of private property.

Sounds to me like their smell was more of a side benefit to their boobs and blondness...:-)

" CIVIL RIGHTS

Barry Goldwater wants equal treatment for all Americans, but preferential treatment for none.

"The right to vote, to equal treatment before the law, to hold property, and to the protection of contracts are clearly guaranteed by the 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. These rights should be rigorously enforced. Existing law demands it.

"In the schools, the Attorney General already has the authority through court decrees to effect integration. But if more authority must be granted, we should write a law that is tightly drawn, that can be used like a rifle, not a shotgun.

"As for the proposed public accommodations law, it is unconstitutional and a clear example of a new law which will only hinder, not help the cause of racial tolerance. Such a law could even open the door to a police-state system of enforcement that would eventually threaten the liberty of us all."
http://www.4presi...hure.htm
He was correct.

" STATES RIGHTS

Barry Goldwater knows that government to be responsive must be close to the people.

"There is a reason for (the Constitution's) reservation of "States" Rights.

Not only does it prevent the accumulation of power in a central government that is remote from the people and relatively immune from popular restraints; it also recognizes the principle that essentially local problems are best dealt with by the people most directly concerned. Who knows better than New Yorkers how much and what kind of publicly financed slum clearance in New York City is needed and can be afforded? Who knows better than Nebraskans whether that State has an adequate nursing program? Who knows better than Arizonans the kind of school program that is needed to educate their children?"

http://www.4presi...hure.htm

VV wasn't much of a conservative then, or now.

"As for the proposed public accommodations law, it is unconstitutional and a clear example of a new law which will only hinder, not help the cause of racial tolerance. Such a law could even open the door to a police-state system of enforcement that would eventually threaten the liberty of us all."

So, you're a fan of segregation. Why am I not surprised?

I am a fan of property rights.
Any business has a right to refuse service and customers have a right not to patronize such businesses.
What the civil rights act has led to is corporate blackmail by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and discrimination based upon race, Affirmative Action resulting in incompetents like Obama.
It has also resulted in an institutionalized 'civil rights' bureaucracy to perpetuate racism.

@rygy

So you have confirmed you support segregation.

@rygy

So you have confirmed you support segregation.

No.
But I have confirmed you support socialism and racism.

"There is a German restaurant called the Alpine Village Inn, in Torrance California. A group of four neo-Nazis went there to eat, each wearing a lapel pin with a swastika on it. The management asked them to take off the lapel pins. They refused. The management asked them to leave. They refused. The management called the police, who arrested them.

Then, remarkably, the Southern California ACLU gets involved, and sues the restaurant for calling the police on the Nazis!"
"How did a civil rights principle meant to aid African Americans and others who suffered grievous discrimination for generations come to protect the "right" of Neo-Nazis to parade their Nazi wardrobes in a privately owned restaurant against the wishes of management? "

"The short answer is that legislation and its interpretation doesn't develop from a coherent set of moral principles, "

Why Goldwater was correct:

"How did a civil rights principle meant to aid African Americans and others who suffered grievous discrimination for generations come to protect the "right" of Neo-Nazis to parade their Nazi wardrobes in a privately owned restaurant against the wishes of management? The short answer is that legislation and its interpretation doesn't develop from a coherent set of moral principles, but instead based on who is able to persuade the legislatures and the courts to adopt the principles they prefer. The principle involved in Alpine Village case appears to be hostility to the rights of private property owners, not "civil rights.""

There were/are free market methods to oppose discrimination.
Socialists use bad law to advance their attack on property rights.

Forced busing has done little but increase animosity.
When inner city black families demand vouchers to escape govt run schools, the 'liberals' say
NO. 'Liberals' know what is best for poor minority children trapped in bad govt schools?

"school voucher programs, which have been implemented despite enormous hurdles, have freed many black inner-city children from their failed neighborhood public school systems. It is the Democratic Party, not the Republican Party, which erects these hurdles. "
"The Democratic Party opposes school voucher programs allowing private school options. President Obama in 2009 let a successful school voucher program in Washington, D.C. lapse at the behest of teachers unions and over the objections of black inner-city mothers"

@ryggy

By your logic the peaceful sit-in protesters at segregated lunch counters deserved to be beaten and jailed.

"The mother lode of racism appears to be in the leadership circles of the Democratic Party and the self-appointed black leaders who protect Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger, whose influence continues from her grave. Black America should view with suspicion many players who share their political party: NARAL, NOW, et al; Hillary Clinton's acceptance of the Sanger award in 2009; President Obama, Reverends Sharpton and Jackson, and the NAACP that accepts Planned Parenthood as a political ally."

I'll take your silence as a yes.

Someone should have opened a diner that welcomed all.
I bet there was a large majority of business owners who would have been very glad to serve all, equally.
Certainly and govt run operation like a city bus would be in violation of the 16th amendment.
But they were likely intimidated by the 'liberal' KKK minority.
The most effective to solution to any business you don't like it don't buy their stuff.
The Weather Channel is finding out their customers don't like the crap they are selling and are losing money.
The NFL is losing audience. Maybe due to the violence of some of their players. Some of them black. Is this racist?

"From 1868 through the early 1870s the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) functioned as a loosely organized group of political and social terrorists. The Klan's goals included political defeat of the Republican Party "
{After the 2010 election, AL state legislature became controlled by republicans for the first time in over 100 years.}
"or many, the KKK and its public political wing, the Young Men's Democratic Clubs, offered a chance to take action."
"Most Klan action was designed to intimidate black voters and white supporters of the Republican Party. "
"The political terrorism was effective. While Republican gubernatorial candidate Rufus B. Bullock carried the state in April 1868 elections, by November Democratic presidential candidate Horatio Seymour was in the lead. I"

"It marks the first time since 1874 -- the post-Civil War period known as Reconstruction -- that the Republicans have held control of the state Legislature. The Republicans cited unofficial results showing that the GOP will have 60 of 105 seats in the Alabama House and 22 of 35 seats in the Senate."
""This is a pivotal day in the history of our state," Riley said. "For years, we tried to pass reforms to make government more open and accountable to the people, but every year Democrats killed reform. Tonight, the people of Alabama have spoken and the obstacles to reform have been removed." "

Then why didn't they open integrated diners?

You know the answer but will never admit it.

It's a no brainer. A Republican, for instance, smell like rotten brain! LOL

I don''t believe the conservative part so how can a Marine be a socialist?
Is it the military way of life, free food, free clothes, free housing, being ordered about that turns one into a socialist?

Sigh. Welcome to Ryg's binary, black and white world. Where there are just two compartments, labeled "people like me" and "the enemy".

Ryg - you argue badly. If all this venting serves to discourage you going postal or something, I suppose it's doing some good, though.

Then why didn't they open integrated diners?

Intimidation, threats, violation of property rights which state and federal laws could be applied.

The Civil Rights Act was passed 50 years ago. How well have the objected been met? Institutional racism still exists and is encouraged by the state.

"Since its beginning, U.S. taxpayers have spent $22 trillion on Johnson's War on Poverty"
"But today the Census will almost certainly proclaim that around 14 percent of Americans are still poor. The present poverty rate is almost exactly the same as it was in 1967 a few years after the War on Poverty started. Census data actually shows that poverty has gotten worse over the last 40 years."
"Johnson asserted that the War on Poverty would actually shrink the welfare rolls and transform the poor from "taxeaters" into "taxpayers."

Judged by that standard, the War on Poverty has been a colossal flop."

"Indulging in prejudice means losing out to the family that is more tolerant or the employer who is more competitive. Second, trying to change a person's attitude toward homosexuality and racism by the use or threat of aggression is not really an effective method; indeed, it usually does more harm than good and causes enormous complications in the long run. The free market gives you an incentive to profit from associating with and learning from others who might be very different from you, who operate outside your normal social networks. Legal mandates tend to breed resentment and rent-seeking that undermine the tolerance necessary to connect to people who are socially distant from you."

Is it the military way of life, free food, free clothes, free housing, being ordered about that turns one into a socialist?
@Rygtard
1. free food- nope. you pay for it. It just doesn't always come directly out of your pocket
2. free clothes- NOPE again... you pay for your uniform. And the military adds a pittance yearly for upkeep (which is not even enough to replace the uniforms you used that year- only enough to buy one set of BDU's)
CHECK the paperwork... ALL soldiers pay for their uniforms. read the fine print.
3. free housing- NOPE again. You lose pay by accepting the housing, and are required to upkeep it (no large upkeep, but painting and small stuff like lights are your responsibility)
4. being ordered about- you have the right AND the responsibility to ignore AND report un-lawful/illegal orders per the UCMJ

this is just further proof that you were never military as you claimed

had you actually had ANY experience, you could look over your own paperwork

"Recalling when strong, two parent families were the norm for blacks, when hard work and merit allowed blacks to rise in society, and when homicide wasn't the major cause of the death for young black males, Golden said with genuine regret, "Isn't it a shame that for most of black people, the good old days were the days when things were segregated legally in this country?"

He concludes, "What liberalism has done to black communities is horrific.""

"The Official Obama Criticizer said to listeners who are black, "There are no Republicans in your neighborhoods. The problem is the people in your neighborhood. Obama's not coming to help you in your neighborhood unless you live in Martha's Vineyard or have a golf course!""
