I see a large problem with this - how many people leave their Bluetooth turned on draining their battery?

Only tracking MAC addresses to protect privacy? There are very few more specific identifying tags we carry around than the MAC addresses and IMIE associated with our name, phone number and registered address, which are unique to every cell phone. It is not much of a stretch to go from MAC to uncovering IMIE and then you are identified and tracked.

Simpler still, someone needs only identify yours as a targeted MAC once, and then they can use it to track your movements in real time through such a system.

The 21st Century Paradigm: assume you have no privacy. Given you are monitored and tracked one way or another for each and every transaction, demand that every service be personalized for you. "They" should know who you are as you walk in the door or pull into the driveway. If they don't recognize you and remember your preferences --what's important to you as a customer, go someplace else that cares. Calgary's BlueTooth is what the Israeli's have been doing with WAZE for a few years now --great service. Bluetooth is fine as long as you're plugged into the cigarette lighter. Kills my battery too quickly otherwise.
