On the other hand, this may explain the actual fate of the massive subsurface plume that some scientist claimed was consumed by bacteria in a matter of days. The article appeared here some time ago.

I never understood why you would want to prevent the oil from the surface. There it could be skimmed and there's far more oxygen to aid microbial consumption. The point of using dispersants is to hide the mess, not clean it up.
